Originally from Sacramento, California, Makenna Harding-Davis (b. 2005) is a composer, conductor, producer, and performer with a passion for storytelling.
Her musical journey began in a middle school orchestra program, where she first discovered her love for creating music. Since then, she has immersed herself in the musical world, with her works performed by ensembles such as the USC Thornton Symphony Orchestra, the Arneis String Quartet, and the Sacramento Youth Symphony.
While her original inspiration came from the film scores of John Williams, her musical tastes are constantly evolving, influenced by impressionist, ambient, indie, minimalist, jazz, and neoclassical musicians.
Currently a sophomore at the University of Southern California, Makenna has the unique opportunity to be at the heart of the music and film industries while benefiting from the resources of a world-class research institution.
Under the mentorship of award-winning composers like Andrew Norman, Veronika Krausas, and Ted Hearne, she is honing her skills and exploring innovative approaches to composition.
Her academic journey is further enriched by collaborations with peers in film, dance, and songwriting, fostering a multidisciplinary approach to storytelling.
Film scoring has always been Makenna’s dream. She has composed music for over a dozen independent films, many of which were directed by students at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. Looking ahead, she is excited about her upcoming internship with renowned composer Bear McCreary at his studio, Sparks & Shadows, where she aims to elevate her passion for film composing to the next level.
